Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyse the labour force in rural areas and to present the possibility of its reallocation to paid work outside agriculture. The labour market in rural areas is less and less identified with agricultural activity. The constant modernisation of Polish agriculture and transforming it into a fully market sector of the economy is able to free the surplus of labour. Thus, an important challenge facing the Polish labour market policy is creating conditions for the full use of these released resources, e.g. by re-skilling the labour force working in agriculture and using it in other sectors. The presented analysis was made on the basis of available statistical data and the data obtained from IT systems of public employment services.
