Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on telephone and e-mail complaints addressed to the Language Consultation Centre (LCC) of the Czech Academy of Sciences’ Czech Language Institute. The set of complaints, which is publicly accessible in the Database of Language Enquiries, is analyzed according to content (thus answering the question of whom and what the LCC-users complain about) and the motivation that led the users to complain to the LCC. The analysis presents a certain typology of complaints; it simultaneously shows that complaints are a rich source of information in research on attitudes toward language and provide insight into the attitudes toward the language institution that represents the normative authority. The author concludes the article exhorting researchers not to neglect complaints as an area rich in information for the fields of linguistic culture and language pedagogy
