Summary/Abstract: This essay presents the female authors of the Victorian era and the male pen names they adopted, arguing that it was a strategic move which favoured their acceptance by the general public. This pseudo-identity played a significant role in defining the changing reality, and in contributing to the success of feminism as a social change in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
