Summary/Abstract: The paper revisits Philip Roth’s 1988 The Facts, an unconventional attempt at public self-exploration/representation. It focuses on the intriguing mixture of inventive confession, nostalgic (re-/de-) construction and critical fictionalization that derives from the writer’s belief that “in autobiography you construct a sequence of stories to bind up the facts with a persuasive hypothesis that unravels your history’s meaning”.
