THE PERCEPTION OF THE CANON ACCORDING TO KAZUHIKO YAMAMOTO

Summary/Abstract: So far we have had various studies on the Kanun of Lek Dukagjini, but not all assessments have been accurate regarding the Albanian tradition, law, or customary code. Some of them condemn it as an inaccurate and worthless testament, while some scholars with more advanced ideas treat it according to its value and nature, which is actually possessed by the Kanun of the Mountains. Of course, every thesis, and every revision of the Kanun remains an invaluable treasure and represents a kind of contribution to the clarification of the content of the Kanun of Lek Dukagjini. One of the scholars who is popularizing the Kanun beyond the borders and beyond is the Japanese scholar prof. Dr.Kazuhiko Yamamoto. His interest and effort to make such a study is to be respected, because at first, he had no idea who the Albanians were, much less what their tradition and culture were.
