Summary/Abstract: This contribution focuses on the only two tales given by Edmond de Goncourt, king of the seventh day, to the collective enterprise of Catulle Mendès. Goncourt took two texts from old works, which he undertook to republish in order to give them to Le Nouveau Décaméron. These illustrate the dual literary style of the Goncourts, that as fanciful storytellers and also as historians of the eighteenth century, especially of women. Love occupies a prominent place: the dark love of the engraver who goes mad in “Un aqua-fortiste”, and the voluptuousness of the courtesan actresses in the Age of Enlightenment in “La Courtisane au théâtre.” Edmond de Goncourt asserts his singularity in this luxurious publication that brings together the writers who frequented his ‘Grenier’ in Auteuil.
