Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the authors are dealing with the issue of gender inequality by showing that it is essentially determined by the influence of the dominant discursive practices. The main goal of the paper is to point out the material consequences of symbolic supremacy and the importance of changing linguistic behaviors for the success of restructuring the relations of power in society and establishing a new paradigm of interpersonal relations founded upon equality. The first part of the paper is focused on feminist linguistics and philosophy of language, the second part interprets performative theory of language in the framework of the philosophy of language, while the third part considers the value of the concept of performativity for understanding the effects the language has in terms of the constitution of identity and social positions, thereby showing the potential of the performative theory of language for the development of feminist linguistics and the accomplishment of its fundamental goals.
