Summary/Abstract: More female employees began to be included in the working life in the world and in our country after the 20th century. It is observed that there has been progress in the economic, social and cultural development of countries with the participation of women in working life. Women have faced various difficulties and obstacles in business life despite all these positive developments. The issue of occupational segregation based on gender is also the basis of these obstacles. Although the roles given to women socially originate from the biological differences of women, they form the basis of gender discrimination. It is possible to list the obstacles in the promotion of women employees as employment in non-qualified jobs, education level, motherhood role, household responsibilities. The fact that female employees are not supported while being promoted in business life has revealed the concept of glass ceiling, which is a result of gender discrimination. The glass ceiling effect in working life is the most important problem preventing women from being promoted. The importance of human capital in terms of business life is an undeniable fact. Positive discrimination practices that will enable women employees to take more part in senior management should be supported and an environment should be created where women can establish a balance between work and family life in order to benefit from the knowledge and skills of them.
