Summary/Abstract: The principle of sustainable development is one of the basic constitutional principles of the state system. Indicators of sustainable development are a tool of information and facilitate a diagnostic evaluation and management of a social, economic and environmental sphere at local, regional and national levels. The quality of inhabitants’ life should be measured based on the objective data, which are indicators of sustainable development as well as subjective data from the research of inhabitants’ opinions. Knowledge of the indicators by young people who will occupy posts in the state administration and local governments in the future becomes a very important problem. The aim of the research was to analyse knowledge of sustainable development indicators concerning public health and a subjective measurement of selected elements of students’ majoring in Public Health. The knowledge of sustainable development health indicators is unsatisfactory; the young people said that despite being prepared to implement and coordinate programmes of health education and health promotion, they do not realize their significance in the future life. The basic condition for the success of sustainable development indicators implementation is the active participation of well-informed and educated members of the society, so continuous education is very important. The evaluation of selected elements of the life quality has shown that students are rather satisfied with personal lives, they confirm the high position of health, although compared with their behavior that is not coherent. They manifest the low level of satisfaction with life. They look at the world not very optimistic but they are rather satisfied with the choice of the field of study. The juxtaposition of selected elements of the life quality with knowledge of sustainable development health indicators shows the need to pay more attention to education in this field and to identify factors affecting students’ lives.
