Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I discuss some of the questions and challenges related to compiling a Hungarian-Serbian dictionary of phraseologisms. The structural characteristics of the two languages and the differences in the tangible and intangible heritage of the two nations are also reflected in the field of phraseology. On the other hand, the fact that they have been living side by side for more than a millennium has resulted in many common experiences, which have contributed to the occurrence of similar or identical idioms in the two languages. The study presents a typology of phraseological equivalence and addresses the problem of the translatability of phraseologisms. In addition, it also tackles the differences between the two languages’ corpora of phraseologisms and places special emphasis on idioms and proverbs with the same lexical structure, as well as on culture-specific phraseologisms and their translation.
