Summary/Abstract: Disease and disability are two very relevant topics in today’s society as well as a rather popular theme of contemporary youth literature, thus it has not received significant attention in literary studies. This study analyzes the literary representation of physical disability based on Sarah Michaela Orlovský’s novel. $e selected literary work is an excellent representation of how one can communicate without having a voice or the ability of traditional verbal communication. Orlovský combines the representation of disability with the concept of finding one’s identity throughout the teenage years. The protagonist and first-person narrator of the story is a disabled boy, represented as an entirely normal child. The below study aims to serve as an interpretation of the story, with a special focus on the narratological characteristics of the literary work, as well as how it affects the reader’s view and opinion of disabled people – in this case, children. It will be shown, how narrative techniques enable literary figures to be the narrator of their own story, even with the disability of having a lack of human voice.
