Summary/Abstract: Writing autobiographically, Lazar Nikolov examines his own path on the basis of three figures of modernity: Dimitar Nenov, Lubomir Pipkov, and Konstantin Iliev. The words about them, written in silent self-reflection, overstep quite a few boundaries and raise a number of questions. Undoubtedly, the composer refers to the aesthetic of modernist autonomy and avant-garde horizons. The texts, being the subject of this article, come under the complex interplay of both the canon and the archives, i.e. two institutions which, according to Asman, build a collective memory by always defining each other. The “portraits” of Dimitar Nenov, Lubomir Pipkov and Konstantin Iliev did by Lazar Nikolov provide a foothold towards rereading cultural memory.
