Summary/Abstract: This language note deals with the spelling rules for numerals expressing an approximate quantity (approximating numbers). Numerous examples are listed, serving as a basis for a discussion of the various factors determining the use of a dash (–) or a hyphen (-). In addition, the author comments on the spelling of cases where approximation is ex-pressed by combinations such as ден-два “а day or two”, година-две “а year or two”, днес – утре “today or tomorrow”, час – час и половина “an hour – an hour and a half”, ден – ден и нещо “a day or so”, rather than by numerals alone.
