Summary/Abstract: Each musical element (i.e., rhythm, melody, harmony, color of sound) has its influence on the human person; the dominant role however, is played by rhythm. Ethnomusicology and philosophy point out that the origins of rhythm are to be found in the primitive peoples while connected with the dance movement, with the universe (regular changes such as day and night, four seasons) with the heartbeat but also with both hypnotic and magical functions of the repetitive beat. Rhythm expresses, above all, the musical content, alongside with melody, harmony and words, but it also produces the stimuli at the somatic, psychic and spiritual levels. Therefore it has its utmost importance in education, especially during early childhood, influences the development of intellect and has strong therapeutic aspect.
