Pac Family Samogitian Bishops and Their Relations with Kražiai College in the 17th Century

Summary/Abstract: This article discusses different aspects of relations with the Kražiai College of two Samogitian bishops from the Pac family – Mikalojus (1610–1618) and Kazimieras (1667–1695). The article emphasises the benevolence of Mikalojus towards the Jesuits, the efforts to implement the wish of his predecessor Merkel Giedraitis to establish a college in Samogitia and the importance of the related bishop’s donation. As for Kazimieras, the article discusses the focus on occasional works written or performed for him at Kražiai College: the occasion of their writing and their possible authorship, the literary value of such works and their contribution to old Lithuanian literature and culture.
