Summary/Abstract: In this study, George Banu and Dan Hăulică are focusing on one of the most important Romanian cultural magazines: Secolul XX (20th Century). During the communist regime, this magazine was part of the few sources Romanian readers could use in order to read contemporary Western literature, essays and articles. Dan Hăulică, who was the editor-in-chief for Secolul XX is emphasizing the idea that great culture always is of a pedagogical value. For that purpose, this particular cultural magazine had success because it showed great respect for fundamental institutions as libraries and fundamental establishments. The article is broadening its approach on its subject, by discussing the case of Romanian arts and culture in the European context, and the way it behaved during the last decades of the 20th century.
