Summary/Abstract: Zakaria Tamer is one of the most important contemporary Arab writers. In his literary oeuvre, the short story stands out as a form that appeared in contemporary literature with the aim of presenting simple, mundane, and specific motifs from the lives of the characters. In Tamer’s stories, the characters are one of the most significant segments. The actantial model is a scheme that is used to represent the way in which the relations between actants are organized. In this paper, the characters are analyzed through their role within the actantial model, according to the action they perform in the stories.
