Summary/Abstract: The reason for the growing presence of English loanwords in everyday Croatian language is the intensive process of globalization and informatization. Foreign words of the donor's language enter the recipient's language most often due to the lack of a corresponding lexeme in the recipient's language. The easiest way for foreign words to enter a certain language is through the mass media such as television, the internet and newspapers. The aim of this paper is to point out the abundance of English words in the Croatian daily newspapers Slobodna Dalmacija and Jutarnji list. Through the extracted examples in the paper, it is possible to notice that English ˗ Croatian syntagms appear as often as simple lexemes. The collected material is an attempt that shows how English words have become an everyday part of the Croatian language in phonological, spelling or morphological form. Anglicisms are especially present in certain areas such as informatics, health, culture of living (lifestyle), sports, politics. The paper provides an insight into the problem of the sudden entry of English into the daily press or the written word, although many lexemes could be replaced with Croatian synonyms.
