Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the analysis of the state in the methods of teaching the mother tongue and literature immediately after Bosnia and Herzegovina gained independence in 1992. It was the saddest time of war, in which a school system suddenly came to an end, and the newly formed state system was not able, due to objective circumstances, to immediately react and pay due attention to the open questions about the language itself, its name, the offi cial use of the language and its application in the school system . It is evident that there were certain activities to make changes in offi cial documents and regulate unresolved problems, and the year 1993 was especially important for the methods of teaching the mother tongue and literature in Bosnia and Herzegovina, when constitutional changes were made, and the Teaching Innovation Consultation was held. plans and programs in primary and secondary schools of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zenica. This was the foundation for the establishment of new principles for the teaching of the mother tongue and literature and the printing of domestic textbooks.
