FUNCTIONING OF THE EUROPEAN OMBUDSMAN

Summary/Abstract: Ombudsman is a very renowned democratic institution in the world, and it’s characteristic for most countries that have or tend to have developed democracy. In this article, the author considers some of the basic characteristics of the European Ombudsman in order to profile this institution. The European Ombudsman is one of the legal instruments eminent to the European standards - an institution for protection of the human rights and freedoms. With the accession of the Republic of Macedonia into the EU, Macedonian citizens will have full access to another mechanism and instrument for protection of human rights and freedoms, based on European standards.
