Summary/Abstract: A portrait of Peter Kubelka – one of the best known Austrian artist, a legend of international film avant-garde in the post-war era. The author presents Kubelka’s films in the order of their production, showing the evolution of his work resulting from the search for the essence of film. In her presentation of Kubelka’s life and work Kosińska-Krippner presents the richness of his personality, and the width of his culture related interests (film, cooking, architecture, archaeology). She shows him as a director, teacher, adventurer, presenter, performer, philosopher, ethnologist, cook and a musician. She describes his most important projects (Austrian Film Museum, Anthology Film Archives, The Invisible Cinema) and notes the influence Kubelka had on other artists.
