Summary/Abstract: Prof. Oleh Pantschuk, the long-time friend of the Bukovina Institute Augsburg, died unexpectedly on February 28, 2022 at the age of 90. Like no other Bukovinian scientist, Pantchuk represented the diverse world of the former Austrian crown land and also the most diverse facets of the times with the various national affiliations of Bukovina. He was of the opinion that the history and culture of Bukovina are an example of the possibility of peaceful coexistence in a multi-ethnic region, that it is important to continue research on the history and culture of Bukovina in international cooperation and to promote contacts between Bukovina and the countries of Central and Western Europe. He was a good mediator between the three Bukovina Institutes in Augsburg, Chernivtsi and Radauti. In 1992 he invited the Universities of Augsburg (Prof. Dr. Fried), Chernivtsi (Prof. Dr. Pantschuk), Jassy/Iaşi (Prof. Dr. Zub), Lemberg/Lviv (Prof. Dr. Grin), Munich (Prof. Dr. Rein) and Warsaw (Prof. Dr. Feleszko) as well as the Bukovina Institute Augsburg (Prof. Dr. Hampel and Dr. Kotzian) to a joint declaration and also to a “Declaration of Intent for Cooperation between the University of Chernivtsi and the Bukovina Institute Augsburg”. It recognized the needs and mutual benefits, namely: exchange of information, i.e. delivery of necessary new and old books, newspapers, documents, etc., at the disposal of the respective institutions; exchange of professionals (historians, cultural scientists, linguists, etc.) both in the field of teaching (lectures, seminars, conferences) and in the field of research (practical studies in universities and archives); organization of foreign language courses (German in Chernivtsi, Ukrainian in Augsburg) with corresponding short practice abroad.
