Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes how different discursive properties of the l-form reported in the literature correspond to the specific l-form’s contexts. The usage of the l-form in these contexts cannot be exhaustively accounted for by any discursive function which is described in the scientific literature. Some of the functions refer to the syntactic structure (it is mentioned that l-forms are often used in dependent clauses), while other functions refer to the position of the action in the narrative chain (l-forms often denote an action that is out of the narrative chain), still other functions refer to information structural factors (l-forms are often used for the information that is already known to the reader), etc. Therefore, there is a question: how do these discursive properties correspond to each other? Is any of them obligatory and determinative for the usage of the l-form? Apparently, the fact that the l-form is a participle is the reason for its various discursive functions that often are not related to each other. The ability of the l-form to be used as a functional synonym of the -ъш-/-въш- participles explains the usage of the l-form in all types of contexts. The question whether it is possible to define one discursive property which would describe all examples should be solved in the context of defining discursive functions of the Old Russian participle as a predicate.
