The book under review, which won its author the Magnesia litera Prize in 2003, presents a detailed analysis of the changes in Civic Forum strategies for taking power and an exploration of regime-change in Czechoslovakia in 1989/90. The reviewer praises Suk's work with primary sources, his theoretically informed and open-min¬ded approach that avoids the pitfalls of historical determinism, his debunking of oft-repeated legends concerning the events and actors, and his uncommonly good writing style.
