Summary/Abstract: Paper from the volume - „DOBROGEA LA SEMICENTENAR” (1878-1928) With the re-annexation of Dobrogea after the war of 1877-1878, we obtained 220 km of the Black Sea coast with the general direction from North to South. There is not a single bay or natural port on this entire stretch, apart from the small bay formed by the prominence of the Constanţa peninsula - about 1,500 m long - which rises from 9 m. at the extremity to 35 m. at its base. Under the shelter of this small peninsula, there has been a port since legendary antiquity, when the ancient city of Tomis was formed, which flourished, no doubt thanks to the trade that took place through the port. In more recent times, Constanța was for a long time an important Genoese emporium and traces of the port works were also found. During the Ottoman occupation, the port and the town completely fell into disrepair, with nothing remaining of the old settlements. After the Crimean War, an English Company, obtaining the concession from the Ottoman government, built between 1858-1860 a railway line between Constanța and Cernavodă on the Danube, 62 km long.
