Summary/Abstract: A large part of the information about metal processing has reached us through the works of ancient authors, some notes were left by the metallurgists and foundries themselves, or retold and supplemented by their authors. It turns out that the practices known today in the extraction and processing of various metals have not changed much over time. Many contemporary artists still draw inspiration and advice from ancient texts and strictly follow their recipes and recommendations. Typical of ancient and medieval treatises is their varied nature, and many of them deal with aesthetic ideas and concepts. Alchemical concepts and terminology, as well as ideas about the structure and properties of the world are used in a number of recipes.
