Summary/Abstract: The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations.Since its creation over 60 years ago, IMO has undergone many reforms. As part of its work, theIMO creates international maritime legislation concerning, inter alia, maritime safety and theprevention of pollution from ships. Changes that have taken place in the shipping industry overseveral decades, also changes in the balance of power in the world and the need to pay increasingattention to effective protection of the environment, including the marine environment,continue to have a significant impact on the functioning and consequently on the reform of theOrganization. The aim of the article is to present the most important issues related to the reformof the IMO.
