Summary/Abstract: This article presents basic information concerning a diplomatic mission—of which little is known to date— undertaken by Count Heřman Jakub Černín of Chudenice, whom the Emperor Leopold I sent as his ambassador to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the first half of 1695, in order to convince the king of Poland of continued participation in the Holy League and to provide further military assistance in Hungary. This work has contributed to the history of the diplomatic service, which is why the international situation has only been superficially outlined. The author concentrates on the count’s ceremonial entrance, his first and also final audience at the court of Jan III Sobieski, during which the tense relations between the two rulers were highlighted. The mission almost ended up becoming a fiasco because of the conflict that had taken place at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
