Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author discussed the meaning of quality of life that evolved through the 20th century. Its development is related to profound changes in human needs, desires and social circumstances. Nowadays, this term obtains more than just economic issues. Many scientists analysed this theme from the viewpoints of their disciplines. Social historians contributed by establishing connections to sociology, anthropology and economy. Finally, thematic and methodological diversity was represented in the example of the Yugoslav bibliography.
