Summary/Abstract: The article is a reflection on social relations between the owners of the old manors in the Upper Silesia region and their subordinate population. The problem has been discussed on the example of the village Siemianowice. The basis for the analysis was the urbarium of the village, which was written down in 1789. Analyzing the text of the document the article’s author managed to outline the structure of peasantry in Siemianowice, culture-forming role of the mansion and mutual obligations and rights of landowners and their subordinate population, which were based on the feudal system. The text is supplemented by a presentation of characteristics of Siemianowice and specifics of the Upper Silesian urbariums originating from the analyzed period.
