Summary/Abstract: After the Law of State Language was passed in 1995, the society's requirements for public speech have changed: from its user's point of view, it is seen as an instrument indispensable for communicating with the adressee. Therefore, at school fundamentals of public speaking as well as the general culture of speeking should be laid down. The society should be sufficiently motivated to keep to the language norms. It can only be attained when the knowledge of a language is considered one of the main ways for the speaker to consolidate his/her social status. Teaching a language, apart from traditional input of the language culture, which is usually taught at school, should also aim at developing a prestigious attitude towards the state language.
