Summary/Abstract: The years 1989–1990 turned out to be a breakthrough in the postwar Polish-German relations, allowed for by the changes in global politics, fall of the communist states system, existing states regaining sovereignty and new states emerging. The perspective of German reunification was also an important element. Polish and German diplomats had to solve many problems and the turn of 1989 and 1990. Signing treaties on border confirmation and on good neighbourship was a key issue. The former definitively stabilized the postwar situation (status quo regarding the border), the latter outlined a framework of the future relations. The paper raises another key issue of the circumstances of signing both treaties and sheds light on the lesser known talks in Moscow at the end of 1989 concerning Polish astern border and its indisputable status.
