Summary/Abstract: The railway connecting Kowary and Kamienna Góra, launched in 1905, was one of several local mountain railways built in Sudeten at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. It was constructed as an extension of the Jelenia Góra-Kowary line, launched in 1882. In the paper, the reasons for its construction were summarized, as well as costs and progress of the works; engineering structures and buildings erected within the railway line were also presented. Subsequent functioning of the line was also described, with an aim of comparing this venture with similar enterprises in Lower Silesia. On such basis, it was concluded that the Kowary–Kamienna Góra railway was a typical venture undertaken by the state administration to stimulate the economic development of the mountain regions, and carried out using standard technical solutions. The article constitutes only a fragment of broader research on the railway network in Sudeten before 1945.
