Summary/Abstract: The medieval seals of parish priests are one of the least explored branches of Polish sigillography. In the article, which is a contributive introduction to the issue, the state of research in this field, research perspective and postulates as well as methodological conditions were presented. Particular attention has been paid to the specific of iconography of these sigilla. A division of the iconosphere surrounding their users – the parish priests – was proposed, with three levels distinguished which inspired the priests when the commissioned the stamp plungers: local (parish), regional (diocesan) and general level (referring to universal Christian symbolism). On the example of five seals authenticating a document dated May 6, 1312, and belonging to parsons Stefan of Nysa, Rudolf of Głuchołazy, Arnold of Lipniki, Jan of Ziębice and Marcin of Osina, the authors sought to demonstrate to which of the aforementioned levels the iconography of each seal refers. Moreover, a detailed analysis of the representations on the seals allowed for learning about very personal features of each of the abovementioned parish priests, their mentality, identity, and about the influence the relations between them and other people or institutions had on them.
