Summary/Abstract: The study problematizes the scenarios of the sacred before disaster, in Mircea Eliade’s novel Noaptea de Sânziene, in which the evil is embodied by the Second World War. We aim to identifying the spiritual experiences through which the characters recover their identity disintegrated by the historical time of the war, the scenarios through which the sacred transcend the fall into the historical time. We also address the presence of the evil as a necessity, in a society which has strayed from the guiding principles of the sacred, in which the chaotic structures proliferate menacingly, the necessary return, through the accepted sacrifice, to the lost unity of the self, „the myth of the eternal return”.
