Summary/Abstract: The study of foreign languages occupies an important place in Europe, a statement emphasized by the representatives of the European Union and by the documents that define the profile of the graduate of the Romanian pre-university education, through the multilingual competences. In this context, the French language and the German language have been disputing, lately, according to the statistical data, the status of second language, under the influence of the socio-economic evolution. At European level, the situation of the two languages reflects somewhat the one in our country, the French language being before the German language in the students' options. One can appeal to the term “multilingual competence” and thus the problem will turn from a struggle for supremacy between the two languages into an approach to the development of linguistic competences, through the acquisition of several foreign languages. Thus, the student will be able to successfully integrate in the current environment, dominated by multilingualism.
