Summary/Abstract: Learning the prepositions por and para presents a challenge both for students of Spanish as L2 in general, and, in a more particular case, for students whose L1 is English. It is this circumstance that motivates us to lay the foundations for a theoretical analysis based on cognitive linguistics, contrasted with the approach of traditional grammar, which exposes the value and function of these prepositions in a simple and meaning-cantered way. Hence, this article aims to expose the pedagogical potential of cognitive grammar, in a specific case (i.e. that of the prepositions por and para) with a multiparadigmatic approach to these linguistic units.
