Summary/Abstract: The article is the first of two parts of a study devoted to the problem of abortion “on demand” on the background of comparative law. It analyses the legal acts regulating the possibility of performing an abortion in Poland and in the Czech Republic, as well as the literature constituting the basis of the legal doctrine in the indicated topic. It was noticed that the restrictive abortion law in Poland does not reduce the number of abortions but leads only to more illegal ones or to “abortion tourism”.
