Summary/Abstract: The article presents and comments on information originating from sources preserved in State Archive in Wrocław, which settle the issue (disputable to date) of place of death and interment of Georg Pencz, a painter from Nuremberg who created paintings in the altar of Sigismund’s Chapel at the Wawel Castle. The abovementioned sources are account books of the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Wrocław, which prove that Pencz died in 1550 in Wrocław and was interred at the cemetery belonging to the aforementioned church. The article evidences the usefulness of various account books in studies of not only economic history but also other areas of historical research, including biography studies. It also depicts the possibility of using such books as sources substitute to lost primary sources (in this case – interment books). Regrettably, the sources from Wrocław do not allow for settling the issue of the exact date of Pencz’s death; therefore, this question remains open.
