Summary/Abstract: Since the dawn of human history, the individual and the community have been evolving together in constant interaction. The emergence of social support is one of the most significant social phenomena improving and widening the dynamics between individual and community. Different kinds of social support have taken shape over time, acting as a buffer against the consequences of the numerous trauma and crises experienced individually or collectively. In more socially advanced societies, social support structures become more institutionalized which facilitates the emergence of collective and assisted resilience. The acquired resilience then becomes a predictor of a more stable and harmonious society which is capable – when needed – to defend and support the individual and the group as the main building blocks of social structures. Thus, acquired resilience reaffirms and strengthens collective coherence and guarantees the stability of society. The article presents an overview of the forms of social support and their role in the individual resilience in stressful or traumatic situations.
