Summary/Abstract: This article compares the approach that accepts prefixation and suffixation as two equivalent means of aspectual pair formation to the approach recognizing only suffixation. Arguments are put forth in favor of the existence of aspectual prefixes, which significantly extend the boundaries of aspectual correlations. Another way of extending these boundaries is to reassess the correlation feature – the specific feature that is added to the invariant meaning of aspect (i.e. of perfectivity) and narrows this general meaning in such a way that it covers only aspectually paired perfectives. Based on the examination of F. Daneš’s correlation feature “mutation” (resultative change of state) and on the analysis of aspectual pairs in various semantic-syntactic classes of verbs, the alternative correlation feature was determined as “natural, inherent limit of the action”. In other words, the process of being “perfectivizable” must be able to be naturally discretized, quantized not only in terms of culmination of an action, but also in terms of a “natural portion” of a process. The extended conception of the aspectual correlation includes not only resultative verbs (opravovať/opraviť, starnúť/zostarnúť), but also the entire scope of punctual verbs (in addition to hodiť/hádzať, semelfactives such as bodať/bodnúť) and “quantized processes” (kašľať/zakašľať, prosiť/poprosiť).
