Macedonian literature in the scientific and translation oeuvre of the Slovak Slavist Ján Jankovič (1943-2021)

Summary/Abstract: In this contribution, we focus on problematic of scientific and translation interest of famous Slovak Slavist Ján Jankovič about Macedonian literature and culture in his professional life. It remains for us to objectively confirm that the reading of the translations of Acad. Ján Jankovič on authors and works of Macedonian literature are a real treat for all true admirers and lovers of literature in Slovakia. His words are fluid, overflowing, the reader is not confused or hindered by any incomprehensible or spatially foreign elements. The ability to capture the spoken form of the language, the sense of stylistic nuances and a huge dose of creativity – these are just some of the characteristics of the unconventional personality of translators of the rank of Ján Jankovič, who, in addition to translating and addressing the issues of poetry translation, prose and drama were simultaneously and successfully dedicated to scientific activity. Now that Ján Jankovič is no longer with us and his scientific and translational oeuvre is closed, it remains for us to remember with respect and admiration his numerous scientific and translational feats, and not to forget to once again express our heartfelt gratitude for his overall engagement in the presentation of Macedonian literature in the Slovak cultural space.
