Summary/Abstract: Commenting on Ariella Azoulay’s concept of potential history Dauksza outlines the ways in which it corresponds with other theories (Traverso, Rosenwain, Butler) and traditions, continuities of thinking about the past as a collection of abandoned scenarios an the potential to organise contemporary relationships. She proposes a concept of history that is apparently complete but which is not in fact a closed order but remains aware of the arbitrary nature of divisions and patterns of existing descriptions of the past. To practice potential history is to highlight the complexity and strangeness of former relationships and it allows us to reshape our experience of community today. Dauksza also points out possible applications of the concept of potential histories in Poland, esp. in the context of the visual and performative arts (e.g. works by Joanna Rajkowska, Daniel Rycharski and Łukasz Surowiec).
