Summary/Abstract: This article explores the possibilities of creating/telling/showing queerstories in artistic, curatorial and archival projects by Karol Radziszewski, one of the most prominent visualartists in Poland today. The works selected (exhibitions of the Queer Archives Institute, the painting Hiacynt, the sculpture/installation Grzybek) construct and recount a queerpast in the absence of archives – a situation that often marks queerstory, understood asa discipline independent of history. Szymański presents different strategies to work withempty/inaccessible archives and to counter the normative archival practices of establishedhistoriography. Drawing on Heather Love and Ernst van Alphen, Szymański addressesRadziszewski’s preposterous and counterfactual works, which become tools to potentatehistory. Finally, Szymański discusses the possibilities of reconstructing queerstory on thebasis of queer archives and the potential to create and “inherit” a queer heritage.
