Summary/Abstract: This is the Polish translation of passages from a chapter of Ariella Azoulay’s studyPotential History: Unlearning Imperialism (London, New York: Verso, 2019). In this chapter, titled “Potential History: Not with the Master’s Tools, Not with Tools at All,” Azoulayoutlines her concept of potential history, i.e. a non-imperial form of thinking about(colonial) history that foregrounds voices and scenarios of events covered by dominanthistorical narratives. Azoulay discusses the entanglement of history as a discipline withimperialism as well as the problematic nature of seemingly neutral concepts such asprogress, emancipation or the citizen, and she also proposes methods of potentiatinghistory, such as non-imperial categories and the photographic event.
