Summary/Abstract: Kniaz-Hunek explores how issues of race are addressed in cyberpunk texts. She analysesa selection of such works, focusing especially on audiovisual media and the portrayal ofBlack people. Writers of colour have recently harnessed this aesthetic in their innovativeengagement with race and ethnicity. Examining selected audiovisual works by Blackartists (Janelle Monáe’s visual album Dirty Computer and Sylvester Ammoussou’s filmAfrica Paradis), Kniaz-Hunek identifies recurrent motifs such as racial dystopia, thepresence of racist technology and Afro-pessimism.
