Drawing-Writing, Line-Visuality and (Formal) Critical States in Autobiographical Comics

Summary/Abstract: The article scrutinizes forms of logovisuality in autobiographical comics. Based on theanalyses of five comics by Polish authors, the text distinguishes forms of combiningword and image typical for comics narration. Kupczyńska proposes the categoriesof line-visuality and drawing-writing to describe the bodily and affective aspects ofautobiography and to indicate the cultural codes inscribed in these narratives. Referencesto the grammar and history of comics position the analyses in the context of internationalcomics studies and simultaneously indicate the self-reflexive nature of the medium.
