Summary/Abstract: Dauksza analyzes Leonard Neuger’s research output by focusing on issues ofmaladjustment and the experience of uneasiness. To that end, Dauksza argues thathelplessness is not an immanent trait, but an acquired and relational one. In this regard,Dauksza refers to Neuger’s proposed term of transitivity: transitive relations, activitiesguided by the dynamics of dependence. An important aspect is the experience ofdiscrimination, which can be deliberately overtaken by the victim in the exploitationof the potential of weakness, which the victim show or performs, thus exposing theconventionality of another’s position of superiority. A key figure for Dauksza is that ofimmigrant/refugee, namely the one who must function in the realm of lawlessness orwith limited rights of newcomers. Following Neuger, Dauksza argues that - regardlessof the actual reasons for emigration, even forced one – there is a need for yet anotheremigration by choice, which means deliberate, conscious use of the potential ofdifference and displacement
