Summary/Abstract: Jacob Stockinger’s classic 1978 text defines the concepts of homotext and homotextualityto identify the elementary procedures for homotextual reading. The researcherdemonstrates that literature’s long and rich relationship with homosexuality is notlimited in a literary work to conveying an author’s intimate biography and thematizinghomosexuality. In homotexts, homosexuality is inscribed in the deep structure of works(it constitutes their identity), even if it does not manifest itself overtly. Homotextualreading allows us to uncover the deep structure and interpret the specific interplaybetween the deep and the surface, the overt and the covert. Stockinger explains thisinterplay on the example of the characteristic motif of mirror, but also those of languageand intertextuality.
