Summary/Abstract: The essay introduces Michal Kłosiński’s project on the hermeneutics of video games.Having located the hermeneutics of video games on the map of contemporarygame studies, Maj discusses Kłosiński’s key conceptual categories, first and foremosta reworking of the idea of the magic circle, the dialectic of immersion and emmersion,a rethinking of the act of enactment using Paul Ricoeur’s figure of oneself as another or EsaKirkkopelto’s quotable stage gesture, and finally, the relationship between hermeneuticchange (ἀλλοίωσις) and xenotopographical alienation in the space of the other (αλλότριον).The article conceptualizes Kłosiński’s project also in the framework of broadly definedworldbuilding and fantasy studies to highlight the premises that allow interpreting videogames on a par with literature, which so far has undoubtedly been the more frequenttarget of hermeneutic reading practices.
